The “Inari” plates was a line of stoneware dinnerware designed by Göran Bäck for Arabia of Finland, with production running from 1975 to 1991. The design is characterized by a simple stripe pattern and is a well-regarded example of Finnish design from the mid to late 20th century.

Göran Bäck was one of Finland’s leading ceramic artists in the 20th century. He was part of the Nordic design tradition aiming for more beautiful every day goods for everybody. After working as a thrower at his sister’s pottery studio, Göran worked for the Arabia factory for more than 35 years.
Founded in 1873, Arabia of Finland has become one of the most renowned and highly regarded manufacturers of porcelain dishes in the world.
In 1873, Rörstrand received permission to build a ceramic factory north of Helsinki in an area called Arabia. This explains the Finnish factory’s exotic name. The stated goal was to produce “porcelain, faience and other pottery” there.
